Be vigilant – help stop the window cleaning scams

There have been recent reports of conmen taking advantage of our trustworthy industry. Unscrupulous individuals are trying to scam people out of money right on their doorsteps.

In Edinburgh, police were seeking information on a man. He was visiting homes asking for money for window cleaning services he never carried out, with officers eventually arresting a 44-year-old man. Check for the latest scams at AGE UK

Here at OVA8, we work with professional window cleaners across the U.K. and around the world. These professionals who are reliable, trustworthy, and authentic tradespeople. These traders can often be found on National Window Cleaning Association websites and other country’s window cleaning associations.

We have some vital tips to help you – and your customers – stay safe.

Always have identification

This might seem over-the-top, but providing ID to people as you visit their homes is one sure-fire way to reassure your customers. Wear photo identification – with your company logo clearly visible – on a lanyard around your neck, or clipped to your shirt/trousers.

Get branded

Try out having some clothing made with your company name emblazoned on it. This immediately makes you look more professional, and will give peace of mind to any potential, or current customers.

Give notice

Make sure you notify your customers about your impending arrival. Nobody likes to be surprised by someone appearing at your window first thing in the morning. Be courteous and let them know what time you’ll be arriving, how much the clean will be, and how you will accept payment.
