Cleaning gutters

cleaning gutters
Cleaning gutters is a great add-on for most window cleaners.

Here at OVA8, we’re big fans of combining two jobs in one, and if you’re using a water fed pole to clean your customers’ windows, why not offer to clean their gutters too?

Keeping gutters clean is essential on any property, as if they get bunged up with leaves and dirt, it can lead to guttering becoming damaged, and even end up flooding.

If gutters are congested with gunk and are unable to properly flow water away from the property, then it could cause an internal leak and water damage, which could mean a bill worth thousands of pounds.

Offering up a gutter cleaning service would be a great addition to any water fed pole round, and at Ova8, we have suitable accessories to help you expand what your business can offer.

Blasting the gutter with water is the first step, and any of our telescopic carbon fibre poles are perfect for the job.

Ask your customers if they’ve had any problems with their guttering before, and if not, offer to clean their gutters for a small additional fee.

SURVEY before commencing.

Offer to survey the guttering first, to check for any damage before you begin the job. Take photos of any damage to show to the property owner. The last thing you need is to try and clean broken guttering, and then be accused of causing the damage in the first place!

Also, offer to clean any awnings or gutterings on conservatories or extensions, as they could also lead to build-up in gutters surrounding the house.

Make sure you’re cleaning gutters more frequently in autumn and winter, as this is when birds can begin nesting in gutters. Falling leaves can cause build-up, especially if there are trees surrounding the property, and if there are blockages, any wet weather can create serious problems.

You will need a ladder to inspect any damage or build-up, but a water fed pole will be more than sufficient to clean any debris.

Perhaps offer customers a discount on gutter cleaning if they have their windows cleaned at the same time? And keep a record of when you cleaned the gutters, as that will help if there are any problems down the line.
